Dwaj bohaterowie straussowskiej operetki wybrali się na bal maskowy: Eisenstein przebrany za motyla, Falke - za nietoperza. Nazajutrz Falke (po wypiciu słusznych ilości szampana) obudził się pod drzewem w parku, gdzie zostawił go lekkoduch Eisenstein.
